invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of
assistant PROFESSOR / associate professor in
ANTHROPOLOGY / SOCIOLOGY
starting on 1st February 2014 or on a mutually-agreed date.
Candidates must hold a PhD in Anthropology or Sociology or equivalent, and have a demonstrated interest in, and ability to, address broader theoretical issues as well as methodological challenges of studying phenomena from the local to the global, using a mix of methods including fieldwork and ethnography. Candidates applying for the position of assistant professor must have their doctoral degree in hand prior to the appointment.
The Institute is seeking to attract candidates whose research is in the field of anthropology/sociology of expertise. We seek candidates with experience of empirical research on cultures of expertise and the production of expert knowledge in the international field, with a focus on, for instance, financial markets and institutions; development cooperation; conflict-resolution, security, democracy-promotion and rule of law; humanitarianism; environmental sustainability; demography and population control; political think-tanks. The capacity to work with colleagues from other disciplines is an asset.
The successful candidate will teach courses at both the master?s and doctoral levels and supervise master?s and
PhD theses. She or he will also be called upon to teach classes in the Institute?s interdisciplinary programmes. Candidates should show an ability to link their topics of specialisation to broader questions of social theory, and to engage with scholarship in other disciplines..
The teaching language is either English or French.? Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of it.
